15 Dogs, One Big Second Chance

Sometimes a rescue takes more than one shelter.

It takes a community.

Animal Control Officer Miller was alerted to a situation that had slowly gotten out of control. What had started with one dog had turned into an accidental dog hoarding situation after a neighbor's dog repeatedly found its way over the fence.

The owner was overwhelmed and didn't know where to turn.

Officer Miller stepped in.

Hands N' Paws took in the first dogs our small facility could accommodate, three dogs, including one with puppies. All got adopted! But there were still dogs at the property, and two of them were pregnant.

We needed a bigger plan, and we needed it quickly.

That's when we reached out to our rescue partners at Spokanimal.

They said yes.

Officer Miller coordinated with the owner and both organizations to create a plan. The remaining dogs would be safely brought in, processed, and transported to Spokane the following day.

And it worked.

Fifteen small dogs were given a way out. A second chance.

They arrived scared and unsure, but they were finally somewhere safe. Spokanimal was able to find foster homes for the pregnant dogs, giving them a chance to have their puppies in a safe, loving environment.

These dogs are no longer living in an overwhelmed backyard, unintentionally creating more and more puppies.

They're safe.

They're receiving care.

And they're getting ready for the homes they've always deserved.

This is what rescue looks like.

One officer willing to step in. One shelter willing to help. One rescue partner willing to say yes.

Fifteen dogs. One coordinated effort. Fifteen second chances.
